Private autism assessment in Copenhagen
Have you always felt different, do you find social situations difficult, or do you quickly become overwhelmed by sensory input? At Nordisk Psykiatri we offer thorough, neuro-affirming autism assessment for adults at our clinic in Vesterbro, Copenhagen.
We see autism as a different way of perceiving and processing the world – not something that needs fixing. Autism in adults shows itself differently from person to person, and in the assessment we look at both your strengths and your challenges. You do not need a referral, and you can be fully assessed within 4 weeks.

What is autism, and how does it present?
Autism is an innate neurobiological difference that can affect social interaction, communication, flexibility, and sensory processing.
Social interaction
Social situations can require continuous analysis and immense energy.
Communication
Implicit cues, irony, and informal small talk can be challenging.
Sensory sensitivity
Sounds, light, touch, or sensory overload can feel intense.
Other areas of significance
Need for predictability
Changes and unexpected transitions can cause distress.
Special interests
Deep immersion and extensive knowledge within specific subjects.
Masking and exhaustion
Intense effort to adapt and fit in can lead to burnout.
When autism is not evident at first glance
Some are identified early, while others develop adaptive strategies and are only assessed as adults.
Social strategies
Have learned social rules consciously.
Recovery & Rest
Require recovery time after social situations.
Energy expenditure
Appear high-functioning outwardly, but expend substantial energy.
Overload & Burnout
Experience recurring periods of sensory or emotional overload.
Masking in autism
Autism may be less noticeable in individuals who have spent years learning to mask or compensate for their difficulties. This is particularly common among women.
When should you consider an autism assessment?
Autism Assessment Step by Step
How an autism assessment works with us
Initial consultation and screening
We talk about your concerns, your background and your needs, and together assess whether an autism assessment is relevant.
Developmental history and clinical interview
Your childhood, schooling, relationships, working life and current everyday life are reviewed thoroughly.
Diagnostic examination
The assessment consists of clinical interviews and validated tools such as AAA and RAADS-R, supplemented with ADOS-2 when needed.
Feedback and recommendations
You receive overall feedback and a written report with concrete recommendations for support, strategies and any next steps.
Follow-up and advice
As needed, we offer follow-up sessions and psychoeducation about autism, for example about managing energy, sensory input and everyday strategies.
Are you unsure whether you might have autistic traits?
Our autism test is based on RAADS-R (Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale-Revised), a recognised and scientifically validated screening tool for adults. The 80 questions are about autistic traits in both adulthood and childhood. The result gives you a first overview and can be used as a starting point for a conversation about an autism assessment with us.

Autism and related challenges
Many adults with autism also struggle with other conditions, such as ADHD, anxiety or depression, and the symptoms can affect each other. That is why we always screen broadly so that we see the whole picture. If needed, we can assess and treat several conditions in the same course.
